The duo was founded in Bamako, the capital of Mali in the mid-1980s and they write their story continuously for over 35 years! Mariam Doumbia and Amadou Bagayoko are a unique musical couple. They met in the centre for the blind and were connected by love and music. They quickly gained great popularity throughout West Africa. In the mid-90 they decided to move to France to look for new inspirations and opportunities. They were world-famous thanks to their collaboration with Manu Chao, which resulted in the album "Dimanche à Bamako". Throughout their career, Amadou and Mariam happily combined their love story with their musical career. In their work, apart from African music, you can hear a wealth of eclectic sounds where the African tradition meets the popular music of the Western world. They are said to be the most famous ambassadors of Malian and African music around the world.
